Thompson v. Quorum Health Resources

Judgment of 1.34 million dollars after a jury trial in Western District of Kentucky on a retaliation claim under the federal false claims act. Thompson was fired as CEO of Monroe County Medical Center because he filed a qui tam against employer alleging Medicare fraud. Upheld by Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 2012.

Mahmood vs. Elizabethtown Hematology Oncology

Lawsuit filed under the federal false claims act alleging Medicare fraud based on the provider keeping cancer patients on chemotherapy on extended and unnecessary infusion times as much as six times the recommended periods for over twenty types of cancer treatments. The Relator, United States, the state of Kentucky and the Defendant settled the case in May of 2014 for $3.7 million dollars.
